HelpfulKat began with a simple observation: people often need help with problems that don't fit neatly into one category. What started with helping others navigate technology grew into a broader approach combining technical knowledge, administrative support, organization, practical problem-solving, and creative services.

HelpfulKat was built to bridge those gaps. Rather than asking clients to fit their needs into a predefined box, we start with the problem and determine what combination of skills can help solve it. That same philosophy eventually inspired KLMNOP, bringing creativity and personalized artwork into the HelpfulKat family of services.

We work with individuals, families, small businesses, churches, nonprofits, community organizations, and others who may not have the time, tools, experience, or extra set of hands needed to tackle something on their own.

Sometimes that means solving a technology problem or making a confusing process easier to understand. Sometimes it means organizing information, paperwork, files, spaces, or workflows. Other times, it means creating something, researching options, handling an administrative task, or helping with a practical project that just needs to get done.

You don't need to know exactly what kind of service to ask for. Start with the problem. We'll help determine whether it's something HelpfulKat can solve - and if it isn't, we'll be upfront about that.

HelpfulKat is built around a simple idea: being helpful isn't about knowing everything - it's about being willing to listen, figure things out, and find a practical way forward.

Katy Hale

Owner & Founder & Consultant

Katy is the founder of HelpfulKat and the person behind its unusual combination of technology support, administrative assistance, organization, research, documentation, creative services, and hands-on problem solving.

Her strength is often in seeing the connections between things: understanding what someone is trying to accomplish, breaking complicated or overwhelming problems into manageable pieces, researching what she doesn't already know, and finding a solution that actually works for the person who needs it.

With experience spanning technical support, process improvement, documentation, training, administrative coordination, communication, design, and community service, Katy created HelpfulKat as a way to put those varied skills to work for others.

She doesn't expect people to arrive knowing the technical terminology, the right process, or even exactly what they need. Sometimes the best place to begin is simply, “Here's what I'm trying to do.”

Tom Hale

Cognitive Orientator

Tom brings a complementary set of skills to HelpfulKat, with a practical, hands-on approach to understanding how things are built, how they work, and how they can be repaired, modified, or improved.

His background includes welding training and certifications, along with mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting, repair, fabrication, and hands-on project experience. His ability to look at a physical problem and work through how its pieces fit together complements Katy's strengths in technology, administration, organization, research, and creative problem solving.

FUTURE:

Tom's capabilities also help lay the groundwork for HelpfulKat's future expansion into additional making and fabrication services. As HelpfulKat develops the appropriate equipment, processes, workspace, and service offerings, this may include expanded welding and fabrication capabilities as well as 3D printing and digital fabrication.

3D printing, in particular, creates opportunities to combine both sides of HelpfulKat: digital design and technology with practical, physical problem solving. Future applications could range from prototypes and replacement components to organizational solutions, custom project pieces, and other useful objects designed around a specific need.

These capabilities will be added thoughtfully as HelpfulKat grows rather than offered before the necessary resources and processes are in place.

Katy and Tom approach problems differently, and that's part of what makes the partnership useful. Katy often approaches a challenge through research, technology, organization, documentation, design, and process; Tom brings mechanical thinking, fabrication knowledge, troubleshooting, and hands-on experience.

Together, Katy and Tom share a willingness to listen first, investigate when necessary, and find sensible solutions without making things more complicated than they need to be.

We won't pretend to know something we don't, and we won't promise a service we can't responsibly provide. But unusual questions don't scare us.
